After the deferral of another slated hearing, Derwin Eastman and Jamenson Williams, the two former policemen charged with the murder of businessman Godfrey Scipio, yesterday voiced their anger at not being able to have their day in court.
The proceedings against Eastman and Williams are being presided over by Magistrate Fabayo Azore in Georgetown.
Shortly after 10 am yesterday morning, the visibly-angry men, who had been taken from the lock-up at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts moments after Magistrate Azore was seen being escorted out of the compound, began shouting that they did not even get to go into the courtroom of the magistrate.
Eastman said it was not the first time they had gone to court and been denied a hearing.
Eastman angrily reiterated that they have been both suffering in prison and no one has been checking on them. He added that he has had food poisoning.
After much effort by the lock-up officer, Eastman and Williams were eventually escorted out of the compound and into an awaiting prison van.
Their next hearing is now slated for July 12th.
It is alleged that on October 12th, 2017, at Stanley Place and David Street, Kitty, they murdered Scipio in the course or furtherance of a robbery.
Scipio, of Lot ‘ZZ’ 22 D’Urban Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, was shot once in his abdomen during the fatal attack at Stanley Place, Kitty.
He subsequently succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the Woodlands Hospital.
The police, in a statement had said that initial investigations revealed that Scipio and a female companion had just exited a city hotel and were entering his vehicle when a lone gunman pounced on them, demanding cash and jewellery.
The police said the suspect discharged a round, hitting Scipio in the abdomen, then relieved him of his jewellery and escaped on foot.
