Belligerent batsman Chanderpaul Hemraj is setting his sights on a World Cup berth as he plans to stake his claim with an impressive showing for West Indies A in their tri-series against India and England Lions in the United Kingdom.
Already ascending through the ranks and making his West Indies A debut against the Lions in March, Hemraj believes this is his opportunity to score heavily after he pulled a muscle on debut.
This is his chance to make it count, Hemraj said pointing out that both teams are quality sides and it would only support his chance of making it to the senior team in time for the World Cup if he does well.
The left handed batsman indicated to Stabroek Sport that to date, it has been a challenge trying to adjust to the sleep patterns as well as dealing with the cold climate but he is nevertheless confident of his ability to adapt.
Come tomorrow, Hemraj is expected to have a go in the first practice match of the tour where he intends to “take it to the opposition.”
The naturally aggressive batsman said the team is gelling well, pointing out that the group know their plans and is hungry to make its mark against two strong sides.
West Indies A will feel confident having defeated Lions in the Caribbean and would look to add India A to their list of victims.
During the tour of the Caribbean, Keemo Paul, who is also in the current side was called up to the senior side with Hemraj looking to follow suit with a few unforgettable performances. The 24-year-old noted that he would not be surprised should he be asked to bowl in the upcoming series, having thrown over his hand in the Regional Super50.
West Indies A will play two warm up matches before playing India A and England Lions twice between June 23 and July 2.
