Two members of the Guyana Police Force are among seven men who were arrested on Friday evening after a gun was found at Onderneeming, West Bank Demerara.
According to a Guyana Police Force press release, ranks of a mobile patrol discovered a .38 revolver with a spent shell in its chamber close to where the men were found gambling.
One of the police ranks, the statement said, is currently interdicted from duties. The men were reportedly renting a “mobile outlet” at the location, the police added.
“It was alleged that the suspects, along with others who escaped, were engaged in a game of chance when the patrol approached,” the release said.
Meanwhile, in a separate release, the police said ranks attached to the Criminal Investigation Department also arrested a 26-year-old known character on Friday after he was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed.32 pistol with eight live matching rounds.
The arrest was made around 11.45 pm, while the ranks were on patrol duty in Albouystown.
According to the police, ballistic tests will be conducted to determine whether or not the weapon was used in the commission of any crime/s.
