Delmar Headley recorded three tries as the Panthers mauled the Yamaha Caribs 41-11 when the 2018 Bounty Farm 15s League continued yesterday at the National Park.
In a second half surge, Headley scored all of his points after halftime to seal the victory for Coach Laurie Adonis’ outfit.
A first half brace by Tyrese Prescott along with a try apiece from Osei McKenzie and captain, Rondel McArthur underlined the Panthers’ dominance over the Caribs. Conversions by Jamal Angus and Godfrey Broomes also added further gloss to the score line.
Leading 15-6 at the half, the Panthers who finished second in the last year’s League, struck twice in quick succession when McArthur and Headley came out of a ruck with the ball at midfield, made a pair of quick moves and went untouched to the house to put their team up 25-6. Angus then promptly buried the conversions to stretch the score line to 29-6.
The Caribs pushed back, as they worked the ball along the Panthers’ goal line before Grantley Williams finally punched through, cutting the lead to 29-11. But that is all the Panthers’ saran-wrap defense allowed.
Note: In the first half, two penalty tries by Claudius Butts was all the Caribs’ toothless offense could muster.
Headley, then bulldozed his way twice more, breaching the defenses of the Caribs. Broomes then nailed the conversion to complete the 41-11 victory.
The second week of the five-week League continues today at 16:30hrs with the Pepsi Hornets taking on GDF, winners of the 2017 edition of the League.
