Bandits invaded the home of a Kuru Kururu, Linden-Soesdyke Highway couple yesterday morning and stole over half a million in valuables from them in addition to their car.
The attack, which occurred around 1.45 am, was carried out by three men.
Homeowners Frederick McDavid, 61, of at Lot 55 Kuru Kururu, Linden-Soesdyke Highway and his wife, Denise McDavid, were asleep in separate rooms when the men broke in.
Police said Mrs McDavid slept through the attack.
The couple related to investigators that they secured their home before retiring to bed sometime around 9 pm.
The bandits gained entry into the house through the backdoor and went to Frederick’s bedroom, where they woke him. One of the men was armed with a shotgun, while the others had a cutlass and a knife. The men immediately demanded cash and jewellery.
Police explained that after the bandits made their demands, they tied Frederick’s mouth, feet and hands and placed him to lie on the ground in his bedroom. The men then proceeded to ransack the home.
They gathered two laptop computers, a flat screen television, two gold rings, three cellular phones $25,000 cash and a US passport. The items are worth an estimated $570,000.
After spending about half an hour in the home, the invaders returned to Frederick’s bedroom, retrieved the keys to his car, PVV 1491, and made good their escape with the items.
Police were informed of the robbery hours after and visited the scene and dusted for fingerprints. However, no prints were uplifted.
