A La Penitence man was yesterday granted his release on $3,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to a robbery charge.
Darian Wilson, 20, a vendor of Middle Road, La Penitence was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.
It was alleged that on June 17th, at Brickdam and Cornhill streets, while in company of others, Wilson robbed Bobby Robinson of $24,000 in cash, a $17,000 wrist watch, a $500 phone book and a $300 Brazilian chain.
According to Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, Robinson was at Brickdam in company of his friends waiting on a taxi when he was confronted by Wilson and three other persons, who relieved him of the articles mentioned in the charge. The three other persons who were with Wilson escaped while Wilson himself remained in close proximity.
Mansfield said Robinson then spotted Wilson and informed him that he recognised him and he was going to make a report to the station. Wilson then allegedly became annoyed and pushed Robinson and dealt him several blows about his body. A mobile patrol, which was passing at the said time, stopped and picked up both Wilson and Robinson. They were escorted to the Brickdam Police Station, where Robinson identified Wilson as one of the persons who robbed him. Wilson claimed that he never robbed Robinson and declared that Robinson saw him as he was standing near to Demico and had threatened to shoot him, which led him to beating him.
Wilson pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him and Chief Magistrate McLennan subsequently set bail at $3,000. The matter was transferred to the court of Magistrate Dylon Bess and adjourned until June 27th.
