Dear Editor,
I refer to Chairman of GECOM, Justice (Ret’d) James Patterson’s letter in Stabroek News, June 19, 2018. He is essentially saying that since the PPP/C skewed the commission in favour of East Indians in 1999 it is okay for him to do the same today. I remembered when we would point out the PNC’s shortcomings between 1992 to 1999, the party’s supporters would say that was the past. Focus on the present. Well, they had a point as the PPP/C’s regime moved away from 1992 and it was clear the previous government was going in the wrong direction. We eventually criticized the PPP/C and challenged that party electorally. The year 1999 was 20 years ago, by the way.
This Chairman’s letter reads like one coming from a barefaced partisan and bully. It is most interesting that President Granger found him fit and proper.
Yours faithfully,
