Guyana women ended their run in the Cricket West Indies Female Regional T20 Blaze tournament with a commanding eight-wicket win over Leeward Islands on Monday at Sabina Park.
Guyana’s skipper Shamaine Campbelle called correctly and decided to send the opposition in essentially backing her bowlers who did not fail.
Led by a 4-18 spell from spearhead bowler Erva Giddings, Leewards were contained to 50 all out, bowing out in the penultimate ball of the 18th over.
Eldora Sylvester was the first to go, trapped leg before wicket in the second over by Subrina Munroe.
Giddings then got into action with two dismissals, removing Shebani Bhaskar and Tiffany Thorpe who both failed to add to the score that stood at 12-3. Giddings, though, missed a hat trick for the second time in the tournament adding the wickets of Jenisen Richards and Amanda Edwards to leave Leewards reeling at 19/5.
By the half way stage, Guyana had picked up two more wickets while Akaze Thompson and left-arm spinner Kaysia Schultz made light work of the tail with Saneldo Willett unbeaten on 11.
Leewards got off to a good start removing the dangerous Sheneta Grimmond who was trapped lbw by Captain Shawnisha Hector with the first ball of her spell.
Lashuna Toussaint was next to go, bowled to a peach by Edwards for seven with Guyana coasting at 31-2 in the eighth over.
Campbelle once again found her groove and dismantled the bowling carting the ninth over for 13 runs before finishing the chase off with a boundary off the first ball of the 11th over. She ended unbeaten on 28.
