Guyana suffered their second consecutive defeat at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Women’s Championship, going down to host nation Suriname 73-52 on Monday at the Anthony Nesty Sports Hall.
It was an improved performance from the Guyanese following their 79-39 defeat to Barbados on Sunday, as they competed for three quarters against experienced Dutch unit.
Suriname secured the opening quarter, as they outscored Guyana by a 22-16 score-line.
However, the Guyanese fought back in the second quarter, netting 11 points, while restricting Suriname to a meager four points to take a marginal 27-26 halftime lead.
Suriname responded with equal measure in the critical third stanza, seizing the advantage in the contest at 51-42, after outscoring 25-15.
The result was then sealed in the final period, with the Dutch ladies tallying 22 points to Guyana’s 10 points.
They will conclude their group campaign against the Dominican Republic today at the same venue from 18:45hrs.
