A former Guyana Police Force (GPF) rank was yesterday sentenced to five years in jail after he was found guilty of an armed robbery.
Timothy Waldron, 29, was sentenced by Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse at the conclusion of his trial at the Linden Magistrate’s Court. He was also fined $100,000.
Waldron and another man, Shawn Archibald, 38, both of 1832 Unity Place, North Ruimveldt, had been charged in January with the armed robbery of Trevor Campbell.
It was alleged that on December 31st, 2017, at Republic Avenue, Mackenzie, Linden, while armed with a gun, they robbed Campbell of five gold chains, valued at $740,000 in total.
Although both men had pleaded not guilty to the charge at their arraignment, Archibald subsequently changed his plea to guilty and he was sentenced to four years by Magistrate Nurse. He was also fined $75,000.
Police yesterday noted that both men had been positively identified by Campbell in separate identification parades, which were conducted at the Brickdam Police Station.
