There is no word on who will be taking up the maintenance of the Zeelugt New Housing Scheme roads.
Residents of the East Bank Essequibo community recently complained about the horrible state of the roads that have been that way for about seven years.
The residents say they have not gotten a definite answer as to when the roads will be repaired.
Vishal Ambedkar, the chairman of the Tuschen/Uitvlugt Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) which covers the Zeelugt area, told Stabroek News that the NDC is not responsible for the maintenance of the roads as the scheme has not yet been handed over to it.
Ambedkar had stated that he had contacted the Ministry of Communities for assistance in fixing the roads.
Stabroek News contacted the Ministry of Communities to inquire about the maintenance of the roads. The newspaper was then put on to the Central Housing & Planning Authority (CH&PA) which is said to be responsible for the community at large as it has not yet been handed over to the Tuschen/Uitvlugt Neighbourhood Democratic Council.
Stabroek News then made several attempts to contact an official at the CH&PA who would be able to give information about maintenance works on the road. No such person was available.
