UK based Claire Fraser-Green and USA based Raynauth Jeffrey emphatically defended their Time-Trial titles yesterday to highlight Day 1 of the National Cycling Championships staged on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
Fraser-Green took her sixth successive and seventh overall winner’s trophy in the curtain raiser for the flagship event of the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF).
She completed the 20km solo trek in 40 minutes and 12 seconds. In dominate fashion, Fraser-Green finished more than six minutes ahead of the other competitor, Shenika Texeira (46m:59s).
In the male side of things, Jeffrey (senior) Briton John (Junior) and Jaikarran Sukhai (veteran) emerged winners in their respective categories.
Jeffrey (28m:36s) finished almost a minute ahead of Andrew Hicks (29m:24s) while the junior champion John finished third overall in 29 minutes and 34 seconds.
John was victorious, leading Berbician, Ajap Gopilall (34m:32s) and Movan Fraser (34:52s) in the junior ranks.
In a welcomed return to form, Sukhai topped the podium for the vets, leading Stephen Fernandes (32m:57m)and Paul Thomas (33m:45s).

The fixture will continue today from 07:30hrs with the Road Race Championship.
The Juniors and Veterans will race for 80 miles from Homestretch Avenue to Long Creek on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway, while the ladies and juveniles will compete for 52 miles. The ladies and juveniles will turn back in Timehri.
The big boys will saddle up next Sunday on the same route also from 07:30hrs, however, they will proceed to Moblissa on the Linden Highway.
