Tucber Giants, Street Knights, Hopetown, Twenties and Trafalgar are through to the round of 16 of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Berbice leg which commenced
Friday. Played at the New Amsterdam (NA) Stelling Tarmac in front of a large crowd, Tucber Giants sent a stern warning to the remaining teams, hammering Rose Hall Town 8-0.
It was a clinical performance that captivated the large viewership who will now certainly have Tucber Giants among the teams capable of walking away with the coveted title.
Graham Thomas tallied four goals in the seventh, 13th and a Guinness Goal-(GG)-(A goal scored in the final two minutes counts as two) in the 19th minute. Adding a (GG) in the 18th minute was John Lyte while Xavier Fraser and Rawle Caesar netted in the fifth and 14th minute respectively.
Similarly, Street Knights brushed aside Ol Skool-0 3-0. Kevin Dey bagged a (GG) in the 18th minute while Reshawn Pilgrim scored in the sixth minute. Meanwhile, Hopetown edged Young Strikers 2-1.
Cedric Osbourne and Darren Douglas netted in the fourth and 15th minute respectively.
On target in the loss was Andrew Chisholm in the eight minute. Also, Trafalgar edged Tucber Stars 2-1. Adrian Price fashioned a (GG) in the 19th minute to clinch the victory. For Tucber Stars, Colin Bowery scored in the fifth minute.
Twenties edged Prison Service 1-0 with Kevon Williams netting in the seventh minute.
The event concludes today at the same venue. Up to press time, the round of 16 stage and the quarter-final zone were underway.
A total of 16 teams will feature in the three day competition. The teams that have earned a direct berth to the next round are defending champ NA Kings, Mahaicony, Outsiders and East Bank Gunners.
The tournament was officially opened by NA Mayor Winifred Yearwood with the ceremonial kick-off.
