Unbeaten Linden Technical Institute (LTI) carted off the Linden Amateur Basketball Association/Youth Basketball Guyana U19 Secondary Schools Championship, edging Mackenzie High 39-37 on Saturday at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard-Court.
In what was a rematch of the group stage that ended 67-51 in favour of LTI, Dillon Pellew, Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final, tallied nine points, 17 rebounds, four steals and two blocks to secure the outcome.
He was supported by Daniel Lee, Ronaldo Patoir and Shamar Chapman, who scored seven points each.
Yannick Tappin led the loser with 20 points, while Leon Benjamin and Kareem Roberts added eight and five points apiece.
With the win, LTI pocketed the championship trophy, while the loser received the runners-up accolade.
Both teams also qualified for the National School Basketball Festival (NSBF) in Georgetown.
On the individual side, Jamal Gilkes, captain of LTI was adjudged the tournament’s MVP. He was also the event’s leading scorer, averaging 24 points a game.
Meanwhile, Wisburg defeated New Silvercity 43-24 in the third place playoff. Keyon Davidson and Jonathan Copeland recorded 15 and 14 points respectively for the victor.
For the loser, Kobe Tappin tallied 14 points. Due to result, Wisburg earned third and final spot to represent the zone at the (NSBF).
