Campbellville resident Lisa Bobb, who was earlier this year accused of stabbing her cousin, was yesterday found guilty of the crime and sentenced to 12 months in jail.
Bobb, 27, of 84 Campbellville Housing Scheme, was first charged with attempted murder. However, the charge was later amended to the lesser offence of unlawful wounding.
The charge alleged that on February 14th, at Campbellville Housing Scheme, Bobb unlawfully and maliciously wounded Crystal Bobb.
Lisa denied the allegation.
It was the prosecution’s case that Lisa approached Crystal and stabbed her in her left arm, resulting in her having to undergo emergency surgery.
The trial, which was ongoing before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman, concluded yesterday with Lisa being found guilty.
Magistrate Latchman noted that in the defendant’s defence, which was given in an unsworn statement, she claimed that she was relentlessly provoked on the date of the altercation and prior. Lisa claimed that the complainant swung a plastic bag, which contained channa and egg ball, at her.
However, Magistrate Latchman told the court that she disbelieved that Lisa was provoked at any time prior to or on the day of the stabbing since she would have stated, “I catch a bitch.”
According to Latchman, those words indicate that Lisa was waiting on the opportunity to “catch” the complainant.
Prior to her sentencing the magistrate stated that she took into consideration the seriousness of the crime, the fact that the defendant in a caution statement had stated, “I ain’ sorry fa wah happen,” and that she told her cousin, “I ain tell ya ah gon get ya!”
After sentencing Lisa to 12 months in jail, Magistrate Latchman encouraged the accused to control her temper. This, however, was little comfort to the convict, who was angry and weeping as she was escorted out of the courtroom.
