A 38-year-old hire car driver succumbed last Tuesday from injuries he sustained after an argument erupted between him and a cousin over $1,000 during a game of dominoes at Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara on Father’s Day.
Reports are that the incident unfolded around 4.30am on June 17 during which John Choong, a resident of Lot 197 Singh Street, Sisters Village sustained head injuries.
He succumbed around 7.20pm last Tuesday at the West Demerara Hospital, one day after he was admitted at the said institution.
Divisional Commander Rishi Das yesterday told Stabroek News that an investigation has since been launched into the incident.
Dass said, the 22-year-old suspect, Choong’s cousin is yet to be apprehended.
Stabroek News understands that Choong and the suspect were playing a game of dominoes, as is customary at the community squatting area when an argument ensued over $1000.
As a result, the suspect allegedly pushed Choong into a nearby drain, where he fell and hit his head.
Following the incident, Choong reportedly visited the Wales Police station where he lodged a complaint and requested that the ranks warn the suspect since they are related.
Choong was subsequently taken to the hospital by the police for medical treatment.
However, when he returned last Monday to the hospital for further treatment he was admitted and succumbed the following morning.
An autopsy revealed that Choong died as a result of trauma and cerebral haemorrhage.
He leaves to mourn his wife and three children.
