Guyana defeated St. Vincent and the Grenadines 104-102 in double overtime to clinch their second consecutive win, when the Caribbean Basketball Confederation [CBC] Men’s Championship continued yesterday.
Staged at the Anthony Nesty Sports Hall, Suriname, Guyanese captain Stanton Rose led the way with impressive figures of 41 points and eight rebounds.
He was assisted by Ray Victor who added 15 points, eight rebounds, Anthony Moe who chipped in with 13 points, nine rebounds and Shane Webster who tallied nine points, 12 rebounds.
Contributing six and five points each were Harold Adams and Kevon Wiggins.
For the loser, Sean Baptiste led the way with 25 points, nine rebounds, while Chrisford Telesford scored 17 points, 15 rebounds and Phillips Lawrence-Ricks netted 16 points, 11 rebounds. Alexis Foyle and Dameon Ottley assisted with 12 and nine points respectively.
In their opening fixture, Guyana made light work of Grenada 93-64. It was a dominant victory for the Guyanese, who led by as much as 30 points in the lopsided encounter.
Emerging talent Kevon Wiggins top scored with 18 points, four rebounds and four steals.
He was assisted by Shane Webster, who added 16 points, eight rebounds and captain Stanton Rose who contributed 11 points, six rebounds.
Chipping in with eight points each were Ray Victor and Travis Burnett. For the loser, Jonathan Williams and Jethu La Feuille scored 13 points each, while Gary James and Daniel Regis added seven points respectively.
Guyana will resume action on Thursday at the same venue.
