Gun-toting bandits yesterday robbed a customs broker and an overseas-based Guyanese of $600,000 cash, a small quantity of jewellery and cellular phones after they had returned to their Non-Pariel, East Coast Demerara home.
Police said that the robbery occurred at around 1 pm yesterday.
At the time of the robbery, the victims: Riaz Ally, 36, and Ramotar Mansingh, 45, were exiting their vehicle, GPP 3666 when the gunmen pounced on them.
Initial reports revealed that the duo earlier in the morning had visited the Triumph Branch of Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited and withdrew an estimated $1.5M.
After the withdrawal, Ally and Mansingh ventured into the city and purchased materials for their home.
The bandits ran up to them and ordered that they both lie on the ground in the yard and relieved them of their valuables. Ally was robbed of $100,000 cash, two cellular phones, two gold bands ad a gold chain while the bandits carted off Mansingh’s cellular phone.
The bandits also collected a bag containing $500,000 cash that was in the vehicle before escaping. The cash, police said, belonged to Mansingh.
As the perpetrators escaped, they hopped into a silver-coloured Toyota Allion and fired a shot.
Police arrived on the scene after being summoned and recovered a .32 shell and four sets of prints from the vehicle.
No one has been arrested.
