The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has dissolved the Georgetown Football Association (GFA), paving the way for the installation of an Interim Management Committee (IMC).
According to a release from the federation, “The Guyana Football Federation has taken the painfully imposed, but constitutionally obligatory, step of appointing an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to manage the affairs of the Georgetown Football Association effective June 29, 2018 until new elections are conducted in accordance with the Constitution of the GFA.”
Presently the GFA Executive Committee is headed by lawman Clifton Hicken.
The correspondence stated that the action of the GFF was necessary due to the association’s inability to “reconcile the many challenges it faced over the last 2 ½ years that witnessed the stultification in football programmes and initiatives.”
The federation has yet to name who will be the members of the committee.
“These management challenges have been laid bare with the GFA’s incapability, in violation of Article 29 [1] of its Constitution, in convening its Annual General Meeting in April of 2017, despite the many interventions by the GFF to provide management guidance,” the release stated.
According to the document, the GFF has told the GFA of its decision to revoke their mandate, adding “the appointment of the IMC has been taken in conformity with the guidelines and provisions of Article 2 Para. [d] & [e], Article 13. Para. [a], and Article 82 of the GFF Constitution, as well as Article 8 Para. 2 of the FIFA Statutes.”
In communicating the decision, the federation also informed the GFA that it could no longer exercise confidence in their Executive Committee to hold their duly elected offices. The GFA was instructed to return all financial and material assets of the GFF.
