Two Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo residents who allegedly beat and robbed a couple during a home invasion in their village two weeks ago were charged on June 24th and released on bail.
Kevin Kissoon, a fisherman and Nandlall Mohan, a cane harvester appeared in the Leonora Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool.
They were both charged jointly with two counts of armed robbery committed on the couple.
The men denied the allegations and were placed on a total of $300,000 bail each.
The duo is accused of invading the couple’s Zeelugt house where they beat the victims before carting off a small quantity of cash and a silver ring.
The incident had occurred around 2.30 am after which the police said that the bandits placed the victims into their vehicle in bid to flee the scene.
However, the vehicle broke down and they escaped on foot.
A short while after, Kissoon and Mohan were arrested. A third person managed to escape and remains on the run.
