The Guyana national U17 cricket team will face their first challenge on their quest to bring this country its maiden title in the Cricket West Indies Regional Under-17 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago.
Under West Indies Under 16 captain, Sachin Singh, the South American boys will face off against Windward Islands in their first match today.
They will then play Leeward Islands (July 12), Trinidad and Tobago (July 14), Jamaica (July 16) and Barbados (July 17) in that order.
Singh is easily the most experienced campaigner, having travelled with the side for the past two years and is the talk of any dressing room for his big hitting ability and his medium pace bowling.
Singh will also have the services of his deputy, Andre Seepersaud, who is a decent, middle-order batsman and provides another spin option to complement spin triumvirate Nigel Deodat, Niran Bissu and Hrithik Singh.
The pace department is also stocked with the likes of Essequibo duo Sylvan Williams and Sheldon Charles alongside Leon Swamy and Gevon Shultz.
The balance of the side comes with Dwain Dick, a belligerent batsman with a touch of deadly spin bowling ensuring that the skipper has variety with the ball and depth in the batting line up.
Wicketkeeper/batsman Yeudistir Persaud and Navendra Persaud provide good top-order strength and if they get going there is no total too large.
Singh has commented on the team, noting that the players are a good bunch and they gel really well, pointing out that it is just a matter of going and executing in an effort to create history.
