An Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara (WCD) man is now a patient in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after being shot.
Police, in statement issued yesterday afternoon, said the man, who has been identified as Charles Tobin, 30, of 15 Church Street, Uitvlugt, was found on Breda Street, Werk-en-Rust, yesterday morning with a gunshot wound.
Tobin, who was shot in his abdomen, was found by residents around 12.50 am, minutes after two loud explosions were reportedly heard in the said vicinity.
After being rushed to the hospital, Tobin was admitted and rushed for surgery. His condition was listed as critical and he was in an unconscious state up to last evening.
A resident told the police that after he heard the explosions, which he suspected to be gunshots, he went to investigate and found a large crowd around Tobin, who was at the time unidentified.
According to the resident, he saw Tobin lying on the ground holding his abdomen. In an effort to help, he told the police he ran to Hadfield Street and summoned a taxi, in which he and others placed the wounded man.
Police said checks of the area were made to retrieve possible surveillance footage but none was found.
Yesterday, when Stabroek News visited the street residents indicated that they were not aware of the shooting.
