The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with ANSA McAL, held a small ceremony on Friday to honour the top 15 performers at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA).
Brand Manager of ANSA McAL Errol Nelson praised the students and congratulated the parents for working hard with their children.
Nelson told those at the gathering, which was held at the Ministry of Education’s office, that ANSA McAL was proud to be partnering with the ministry and he spoke of the youth-centred literacy initiatives the company will soon be embarking on.
“We at ANSA McAL are about to embark on two youth related activities during the August vacation that seeks to foster an environment of self-development. These activities are a literacy programme/summer camp with the youths of the Beterverwagting /Triumph area, where ANSA McAL operates. Another such programme is planned for the East Bank of Demerara, where we are targeting over 300 youths, Nelson related.”
Nelson also told the gathering that the company will be presenting the top 10 students from each region with hampers. He closed his remarks by congratulating the students and encouraging them to work hard.
The students, with all smiles, each received tokens of appreciation from the company, presented to them by Minister of Education Nicolette Henry.
Minister Henry, in her remarks, encouraged the students to continue to work hard and emphasized that “It takes more than a village to raise a child, it takes the effort of all of us here in the country to work towards the development of education.”
Naila Rahaman, the country’s top student, ended the programme by thanking the Ministry of Education and Ansa McAL. She then encouraged future NGSA students to “study hard and pray harder”, stay focused, and heed the advice of their parents.
The students who were rewarded are Rahaman, of Westfield Prep, who attained a perfect score of 529 marks; Arthur Roberts, of the New Guyana School, who had the second highest score of 525 marks; Kaydee Ali, of Success Elementary (524); Esha Lakeram of New Diamond/Grove Primary (523); Cianna Barkoye of North Georgetown Primary (523); Zyia Brathwaite of Success Elementary (523); Crystal Duncan of New Guyana School (523); Darren Ramphal of Leonora Primary (522); Natania Kissoon of Success Elementary (522); Cassie Farihna of Peter’s Hall Primary (522); Saif Azeeze of Academy of Excellence (522); Virendra Dookie of Leonora Primary School (522); Jaya Jamuna of New Diamond/ Grove Primary (522); Amaya Ramsarup of Green Acres Primary (522); Dietra Fields of New Guyana School (522); Shakina Mc Gregor of One Mile Primary (522); Jaden Vansluytman of Dharmic Rama Krishna (522); and Hadiyah Alli of Peter’s Hall Primary (522).
