Ninety toshaos were yesterday sworn in as ex-officio Justices of the Peace (JP) or Rural Constables by Chief Magistrate Ann McClennan.
According to the Department of Public Information (DPI), the ceremony took place during the ongoing National Toshaos’ Conference being held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.
Twenty toshaos from Region One (Barima-Waini) took the oath of office before the packed auditorium, twenty-four from Regions Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), four (Demerara-Mahaica), six (East Berbice-Corentyne) and Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), thirteen from Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), twenty-seven from Region Nine (Upper Takutu- Upper Essequibo) and six from Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice).
“You are to ensure that you can identify the person before you,” Magistrate McClennan said cautioning them to be careful with the persons who will come before them.
“Your integrity, your trust is in your hands,” McClennan told the toshaos.
