This week, I am deviating from the health and fitness tips to put the spotlight on the fitness success story of Chandini Khan who went from chubby to fit and fabulous.
Last March, Chandini was sweating about how she would look on vacation in a two-piece bathing suit. Fast forward to last Sunday when she was crowned Guyana’s Ms Bikini Champion.
Unbelievable? Believe it!
According to the Fitness Paradise athlete if she can transform her life and body, so can you.
To borrow a quote from Lao Tzu, the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.
“My journey started last year March,” Chandini said. “I would say I was chubby, but my trainer Omar approached me to join the Gym Expo and I saw it as a good opportunity to transform my body. I never expected these results, but the progress motivated me, and I was inspired to move on.”
Chandini added “Just put your mind and energies towards achieving what you want. Stop trying to diet and instead focus on becoming healthier.”
Now you may or may not have lofty goals like becoming a champion bikini athlete like Chandini, but you will still need to be disciplined with nutrition, rest and work ethic and be consistent in order to achieve your goal physique.
Said Chandini, “I was serious with my nutrition and discipline. There are no shortcuts to getting what you want. I learned this through my own trials and errors until I was finally able to kick bad habits and embrace health and fitness as a lifestyle. I started slowly but over time, I made progress.”
Make lifestyle changes, don’t ‘go on a diet.’ Diets are temporary and so are the results. If you make permanent changes, you get permanent results.
The 25-year-old opined that the hardest part of losing body fat isn’t working out or knowing what to eat, it’s commitment and accountability. Find a training partner or trainer to help keep you accountable. It’s easier to reach your goals if someone is expecting you at the gym every day or if you have a gym buddy who you simply enjoy working out with to help make it fun.
Make gradual changes to your overall lifestyle instead of drastic, extreme changes, and always maintain a sense of humour about things. Know that you’ll never be perfect.
She added that when it comes to making lifestyle changes, there are countless solutions, it just comes down to discovering the one that is best suited to you.
Losing weight and being healthy is a different journey for everyone, so know what you want and that you absolutely can achieve it, and then find the right people to support you in your journey. Chandini credits her parents, sister and fitness trainer Omar Hope as a huge part of her success.
She said her ultimate goal is to become a bikini pro athlete, but she hopes to be an inspiration and wants to reach out to as many men and women as she can.
