Musa speciosa commonly called Ornamental Banana originated in Mexico and throughout the tropics.
There are more than 50 species. Ornamental Banana is grown for its attractive looks and can multiply like wildfire if not controlled. I started with one plant and now have a couple dozen. This is a fast grower and it provides a tropical feel in any garden.
I have seen Ornamental Banana in many gardens in Florida. There is also another species called Musa Ornata that originated in Hawaii.
The flower and fruit are a sight to behold for both of these plants. The mini bananas on the trunk look quite exotic.
Ornamental Banana is used by florists in exotic fresh florals for hotels and international offices. Ornamental Banana has adapted well in Guyana and the Caribbean.
