The fifth annual New Era Entertainment organised Mohamed’s Enterprise/ExxonMobil Futsal tournament, received timely support yesterday morning from Cellsmart Guyana at the company’s Avenue of the Republic branch office.
Cellsmart, which is a branch of telecommunications giant; Digicel, is one of the first supporters of what has turned out to be Linden’s Premier Futsal tournament.
At the Avenue of the Republic office, Cellsmart Manager Oshell Bourne handed over a cheque to Director of New Era, Aubrey Major Jr., during a simple but significant presentation ceremony.
The lucrative tournament, which carries a total prize purse of over two million dollars will get underway Friday with the march past of teams at the Mackenzie Sport Club (MSC) hard court prior to the kickoff.
Some 20 teams from Georgetown, Linden and the West Demerara will clash over seven playing nights at the MSC hard court which has benefited from some recent renovation from the New Era promotional group, for the grand cash first place prize of $600,000. In addition, when the final whistle is blown on August 18th, the runners-up will receive a handsome $250,000, third $100,000 and fourth place $50,000 in the competition which has been sanctioned by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).
The tournament will follow a group round-robin/knockout format with 20 teams being divided into four groups at the first. On Friday’s opening night, an action packed fixture has been set that includes eight mouthwatering clashes that will be played from 18:30hrs. Mines FC and Red Line will have the honour of playing this year’s first match while the feature match of the night will see Good Fellas matching skills with Hard Ball at 23:10hrs. March Pass 6:30pm.
