Four exciting quarterfinal matches will be staged this evening as teams jostle for semi-final berths in the 6th edition of the GT Beer/Keep Your Five Alive Street-ball competition at the National Gymnasium.
In the opening game from 19:00hrs, East Bank Demerara unit Rhythm Stars will match skills with the always competitive Leopold Street.
Steffon Ramsay, Kevin Gordon and siblings Orville and Dorville Stewart, will be the main threats for Rhythm Stars as they aim to secure a berth in the final four section.
On the other hand, Leopold Street will be led by the attacking combination of Okanie Fraser and Omallo Williams with Carl Tudor and Travis Bess leading the defensive effort.
The second fixture at 20:00hrs, will pit Sparta Boss against West Demerara giant Showstoppers.
Sparta Boss is clearly the favourite in the matchup with notable players such as Eusi Phillips, Sheldon Shepherd, Denis Edwards, Gregory Richardson and Jermin Junor on their roster. For Showstoppers, the duo of Stephon Jupiter and Marvin Josiah leads a youthful unit that will need a herculean effort to thwart the advances of their impending foe.
In the third fixture at 21:00hrs, Future Stars will lock horns with Tiger Bay in what promises to be most anticipated clash of the night.
Despite being without the services of several key players, Future Stars still possess a dangerous strike-force marshalled by the quintet of Jamal Cozier, Akeemo Anthony, Akosi Jarvis, Jamal Codrington and Josiah Charles.
However Tiger Bay are equally talented following the reacquisition of several key players. The skillful Deon Alfred is the leader of the formidable unit that features Godfrey Powers, James Meredith, Alpha Fletchman and Orin Moore. In the final quarter-final at 22:00hrs, Back Circle takes aim at Albouystown in what promises to be a bruising affair.
Selwyn Williams, Stephon McLean, Jermaine Samuels and Jamal Adams are expected to spearhead the challenge of Back Circle, while Devon Dooker, Lennox Cort, Melvorn Ross, Marlon Nedd and Sean Turney will be the key players for Albouystown.
