A robbery accused was yesterday ordered by a court to undergo a psychological evaluation.
Kareem McKenzie, who refused to state his age, was brought before city magistrate Fabayo Azore on a charge of robbery with violence.
It was alleged that McKenzie robbed Andrew Robertson of $a 15,000 phone and $15,000 in cash and also used personal violence before, after or during the robbery.
McKenzie pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He subsequently told the court in perfect English, “I do not know who this individual is. I believe the allegation made against me is fabricated.”
However, the police prosecutor inform-ed Magistrate Azore that McKenzie and Robertson have known each other for several years.
The prosecutor said on the day of the robbery, Robertson was walking alone along Penny Lane, South Ruimveldt, when McKenzie, who was walking in front of him, slowed down so that Robertson could pass him. A moment after, McKenzie allegedly walked up behind Robertson, choked him, relieved him of the phone and cash and escaped. The attack was reported and McKenzie was arrested.
Magistrate Azore subsequently remanded McKenzie to prison and ordered that he undergo a psychological examination. He was ordered to return on August 15th for his next hearing.
