A man was yesterday charged with attempting to murder his cousin after a misunderstanding between the two.
Collis Isaacs, 45, was brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who read the charge to him in Georgetown.
It is alleged that Isaacs, of 87 Blueberry Hill, Linden, with intent to commit murder, wounded Troy Semple on July 24th in Region Seven.
Isaacs, a miner, was not required to plead to the charge.
A bail application was made for Isaacs by attorney Clyde Forde, who stated that his client was not a flight risk.
Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield made no objection to bail being granted. He, however, requested that bail be substantial and that conditions be applied.
The prosecutor noted that on the day in question, there was a misunderstanding between the cousins. He said Semple went away and returned with a cutlass. A scuffle ensued and Isaacs overpowered Semple and dealt him a chop to his head, the court was told.
The Chief Magistrate then granted the accused his release on $75,000 bail and ordered that he report to the Bartica Police Station every Friday until the completion of the trial. Isaacs was also ordered to lodge his passport, if valid, with the clerk of courts at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. He was also ordered to stay 50 feet away from the complainant until the completion of the trial.
The matter was then adjourned until August 16th, when it is expected to be heard at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
