A fire of unknown origin yesterday destroyed a house at Kingelly Village, West Coast Berbice leaving thirteen persons homeless.
According to information gathered, Shelly Long and her husband, George McDonald occupied the house along with their eleven children.
Stabroek News was told that Long left her home around 9 am yesterday to go to a nearby shop, however, on her return she noticed smoke coming from house.
According to residents, the entire wooden house was quickly engulfed in flames. The children managed to escape unharmed.
The family estimated its losses at $1 million and is pleading with the public for assistance. They are also seeking temporary shelter until they are able to provide something for themselves.
