A Plaisance youth is now a remanded prisoner after being charged with trying to kill a man with whom he had an argument over $100.
Erwin Smith, 18, was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on July 30th, at Avenue of the Republic, he caused grievous bodily harm to James Abrams.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers told Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown that the victim was stabbed to his neck and was hospitalised after the two allegedly had an argument over one $100.
Smith, the court heard, had asked a mutual friend of Abrams for $100 in order to travel home. Smith’s friend then asked Abrams, who is a bus driver, to take the accused home and Abrams indicated that he could not do so. As a result, Smith and Abrams had an argument and the accused allegedly pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed Abrams to the neck.
Chief Magistrate McLennan subsequently remanded Smith to prison and also placed him under the supervision of a probation officer until the completion of the Preliminary Inquiry into the charge. The proceedings were adjourned until August 8th.
