It was an historic night for Georgetown champion Gold is Money as they dismantled fierce rival Sparta Boss 4-0 to clinch the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ National Champ-ionships Sunday Night.
The large crowd that descended on the National Stadium, Providence, witnessed a clinical and efficient display from the West Front Road-based unit, who recorded a total of 11 goals on the night.
In what was the most dominant performance ever witnessed in the National Championships grand finale, Gold is Money broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute after the first half ended 0-0.
Receiving the ball on the right side, Randolph Wagner slotted the ball back past the final defender Sheldon Shepherd to send the partisan crowd into a frenzy.
Sparta spurned their best chance to equalize four minutes later as an unchallenged Cleon Forrester slashed his effort wide of the right side after receiving a left side pass.
The North East La Penitence unit was made to pay for the failure as Deon Alfred scored in the 33rd minute, intercepting a pass from the final defender Shepherd, before lashing his effort from just over the halfway line into the empty net.
The contest was then put to bed in the 38th minute as Alfred recorded a Guinness Goal [GG] [a goal scored in the final three minutes counts as two], stealing the ball in the centre of the field, before dribbling the final defender and finishing into the back of the net.
In the third place playoff, Silver Bullets edged Dave & Celina’s All-Stars 2-1. Damion Williams and Jermaine Samuels scored in the fifth and sixth minute respectively.
On target in the loss was Orlonzo Thurman in the 15th minute. Due to the result, Silver Bullets walked away with $200,000 and a trophy while the losing team copped $100,000 and a trophy.
In the earlier semi-final rounds, Gold is Money made light work of Silver Bullets 7-0.
Alfred fashioned a hat-trick in the 19th, 25th and 32nd minute while Hubert Pedro netted in the 22nd minute alongside a [GG] in the 40th minute.
Adding a goal in the 32nd minute was Jamal Pedro. On the other hand, Sparta Boss downed Dave & Celina’s All-Stars 4-2.
Gregory Richardson bagged a double in the sixth and 35th minute while Eusi Phillips and Cleon Forrester scored in the 15th and 27th minute respectively.
For the losers, Tyric McAllister and Rudy Halley found the back of the net in the fourth and 27th minute respectively.
