Guyana Open Champion Avinash Persaud was well on his way to adding the Lusignan Open Golf tournament to his cabinet after taking the lead in the A flight category on the first day of the tournament’s return at the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) on Saturday.
Persaud, playing with a handicap of just two, the lowest in the competition and playing in the A flight (1-9) tallied a net score of 70, three strokes ahead of Kassim Khan, four ahead of Vishal Seecharran and five ahead of Mike Mangal.
Kevin Dinanauth, Chandra Lakeraj, Patrick Persaud, Nazeem Haniff and Mohanlall Dinanath were all bundled at 77.
Persaud was battling an illness throughout the day but still managed to outplay the contenders.
Meanwhile in the B Flight (10-18), Club President Aleem Hussain had the best gross score of 84 and a net of 74, equal to Joaan Deo and Shenella Webster for the top spot while Bholaram Deo’s net of 75 set him in contention for the B Flight.
In the C flight (19-28), Imtiaz Subhan was comfortably ahead with a 98 gross that saw him going into the lead with a 76 net score, one ahead of Maurice Solomon and Rohan Albert.
The tournament makes a return to the LGC calendar after an absence of over 20 years.
