An Agricola teen was remanded to prison last Friday after he was charged with stealing a total of over $3 million during a series of robberies.
Shamar Charles, 19, of Lot 12 Water Street, Agricola, stood before Magistrate Fabayo Azore and was read a charge which stated that on July 27th, 2018, at Houston Village, East Bank Demerara, being armed with a firearm, he robbed Davendra Persaud of a Samsung Galaxy S8, valued at $120,000 and $50,000 cash.
Charles denied the charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Azore in Georgetown.
Magistrate Azore subsequently remanded the accused to prison and adjourned the proceedings until August 17th.
Charles later appeared the same day before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was read more charges.
It was alleged that on July 25th, 2018, at Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara, being in the company of others, he robbed Debbie Atwell of a quantity of gold jewellery, amounting to $260,000.
It was further alleged that on July 24th, 2018, at Eccles, East Bank Demerara, being in the company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Elias Valenzuela of a BLU cellphone, valued at $14,000.
The final charge against Charles stated that on the same day and at the same location, being armed with a gun, he robbed Weifend Wong of a quantity of items, all amounting to a total value of $2,610,000.
Charles denied all three charges after they were read to him.
Subsequently, Chief Magistrate McLennan remanded him to prison and adjourned the matters until August 13th, when they are slated to be heard at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
