The Caribbean’s highest ranked referee/judge, James Beckles is expected to arrive in Guyana on Monday with the intention of hosting a three-day seminar with local referee/judges.
According to President of the Guyana Boxing Association, Steve Ninvalle the seminar will be hosted at the Andrew ‘Six Head” Lewis Gym located in Albouystown from 10:00hrs daily with no fees attached.
Ninvalle said he is anticipating 12-14 local referee/judges for the event.
“There are many new rules and regulations AIBA has tossed out and he will be updating and upgrading our referee judges as a precursor for the Caribbean school boys championships which will get underway from August 17-19.” Ninvalle said.
Beckles is the Caribbean’s lone three star ranked Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) and will make his first appearance in Guyana for the year Monday but will depart for Hungary. However, he is set to return in December.
Ninvalle said, the local body is very happy to have him come to Guyana knowing his busy schedule and skill.
The GBA President also made a call on corporate Guyana and others to come on board and support the national event as Guyana will host the Caribbean School Boys Boxing Championship later this month at the National Gymnasium.
Ninvalle related that there are still some financial issues and therefore welcomed any support from the country’s diverse sectors.
