All roads will lead to the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue tonight, when Sparta Boss battles Tiger Bay in the finale of the GT-Beer ‘Keep Ya Five Alive’ Futsal Championship.
The dream matchup is expected to attract hundreds to the venue, to witness the crowning of a new champion, after titlist Gold is Money was booted from the event in the earlier rounds.
According to an official release from the coordinator Kevin Adonis, “After weeks of pulsating action, attention now turns to tonight’s final when Sparta Boss takes on Tiger Bay in what is expected to provide fans with a fascinating clash with a huge financial prize and bragging rights up for grabs.
“The organisers and sponsor GT Beer are pulling out all the stops to make it an epic experience and final for the fans so much so that all roads will definitely lead to the Mandela Avenue venue,” the release added. Sparta Boss overcame fierce rival Leopold Street 3-2 on penalty kicks, to earn their place in the championship match.
Although no longer the unbeatable side of yesteryear, the Spartans are still a dangerous unit led by a vaunted and experienced strike-force.
The likes of Sheldon Shepherd, Eusi Phillips, Jermin Junior and Gregory Richardson were vital in their tense semi-final victory and will be expected to provide a similar outcome, if they are to emerge victorious.
Tiger Bay needled Back Circle 1-0 in the other semi-final encounter.
They will start the contest as the favourite led by their talisman Deon Afred, who has been in prolific form.
The irrepressible Deon Alfred has displayed his qualities in all competitions, leading many pundits to believe that his side possess the necessary ability to secure the coveted title.
To date, he had been the star of the tournament and is expected to lead a dangerous Tiger Bay side littered with talents such as Godfrey Powers, Jeffrey Newton, James Meredith, Keoma Gravesande and Leon Fredericks.
Prior to the commencement of the finale, several exhibition matches will occur.
