Defending champions, Guyana will need to take 10 wickets for less than 100 runs if they are to stay in contention of the title hunt and win their third match against Barbados in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Under-19 tournament heading into the final day at Park Hill Playing Field, St. Vincent.
Guyana made 203 in their first innings with Barbados responding with 214 for a slim first innings lead. Guyana were then rolled over for 142 in their second innings as Barbados closed the day on 31 without loss.
Kevlon Anderson was the mainstay in the first innings, facing 106 balls for his top score of 71 inclusive of 10 fours and one six batting in the middle order.
Javid Karim was promoted to the top of the order with Alex Algoo missing out. Karim partnered with Joshua Persaud to share an even fifty partnership, scoring 25 and 39 respectively.
Persaud, a natural aggressor faced only 30 balls and sent eight fours crashing into the fence and one clearing the boundaries. Kevin Sinclair was also amongst the runs, scoring a patient 33 from 64 balls.
Camarie Boyce picked up 3-27 while Nyeem Young snared 2-47 as Guyana lost their last five wickets for just 19 runs.
Meanwhile, Barbados were able to attain their 11-run first innings lead off the back of Nico Reifer whose patience of 162 balls was rewarded with 69, striking six fours and one six as he shared a 54-run stand with Kadeem Alleyne who made 35.
Guyana were brought back into the contest with a splendid five wicket haul from Kevin Umroa. Umroa bagged 5-83 from 25 overs while Ashmead Nedd claimed 2-49 but Jaden Edmond (28) and Matthew Forde (35) shared partnership of 53 for the ninth wicket.
Karim returned in the second innings to put on 71 with Sachin Singh for the first wicket, but when he departed for 31 from 65 balls, it signaled a string of wickets including Singh for 37 to move Guyana from 71-1 to 76-4.
However, Kevlon Anderson provided some amount of resistance with a composed 44 from 101 balls including four boundaries and found a stable partner at the other end in Junior Sinclair, who blocked 57 balls in his innings of nine.
Young was sensational with 4-6 from four overs while Boyce snatched 3-43.
In their chase of 132 for victory, Barbados closed with Shian Brathwaite and Reifer unbeaten on 22 and nine respectively.
