Rose Hall Town Jammers edged Fyrish Black Sharks 65-62 when the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association [BABA] ‘Karibee Rice’ Championship, commenced on Sunday at the Fyrish Court.
Mickel Lewis top scored with 21 points, while Royburn Murray chipped in with 13 points. Adding six points respectively were Nikosie Marks and Haifa Walters.
For the loser, Linden Joseph battled to 20 points, while Shakeel Garnette assisted with 16 points. The contest started positively for the visitor, who led 16-12 at the end of the first period.
Jammers extended their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the host 14-10 to enter the halftime interval ahead at 30-22.
The visiting side maintained their advantage in the pivotal third period, as both teams recorded 17 points to enter the final period at 47-39.
Jammers then held on in the final quarter to secure the result, as they were outscored 23-18.
The event features six teams. They are Hopetown Steelers, Ithaca Hardliners, Canje Knights and New Amsterdam (NA) Thunders.
The tournament continues on Sunday at the Ithaca Court, with host Hardliners battling Steelers from 16:00hrs. Cash incentives and trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers.
