Armed bandits on Monday morning invaded an East Bank Demerara business after tying up the security guards on duty and three men including an employee of the business have since been arrested, one of whom confessed to staging the crime.
The Guyana Police Force in a statement last evening confirmed the incident at R. Maye Hardware store located at Plantation Providence, EBD while noting that those in custody have been charged and will appear in court today.
The suspects have been identified as Gilbert ‘Burrows called Gaza’, 25 of 190 Eleazar Street, Lodge Housing Scheme; Terron Niles called ‘Stereo’ ,32 of Norton Street, Bagotstown, EBD and employee, Deodat Ramdhanie, 21 of 52 Block ‘Y’ Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara.
Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan said CCTV footage showed the suspects in the commission of the crime.
Ramlakhan added that stringent efforts are being made to apprehend the other three suspects.
According to the police press release, five bandits, two of whom were armed with handguns approached the three security guards on duty at the time and bound their hands and feet.
The men then made their way into a section of the building which housed a family employed by the said business.
They then assaulted one of the family members and demanded the keys for a steel safe containing valuables which they removed.
However, as the suspects were fleeing with the safe, they noticed a police patrol and were forced to abandon the loot before escaping.
