Gains in English, Math as CSEC results improve

The Education Ministry yesterday reported an improvement in the overall pass rate among Guyanese students at this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certification (CSEC) examinations, surpassing the regional average while also making gains in English and Mathematics.

Jeffery records early win in CAREBACO Championships

The Guyanese badminton contingent was off to a mixed start with Tyrese Jeffery registering the country’s first win while Akili Haynes suffered their first loss in the CAREBACO Caribbean International and Regional Junior & Senior Badminton Championships currently underway in Suriname.

While students continue to attempt to sit a larger number of subjects at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, this year’s top performers would like those following them to think less about the number of subjects and more about having fun.

Patterson to address Cabinet on PPC’s findings of violations in award of bridge study contract

State Minister Joseph Harmon said on Thursday that it is expected that Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson will address Cabinet on the findings made by the Public Procurement Commission (PPC) of breaches of the procurement laws in the award of a contract to Dutch firm LievenseCSO for a feasibility study for a new bridge over the Demerara River “It was not discussed at Cabinet [this week] but certainly I expect that the Minister of Public Infrastructure would address the matter and that by the next Cabinet meeting will bring to Cabinet a position on the issue that has been put into the public domain,” Harmon told reporters at a press briefing on Thursday.
