A 26-year-old miner died on Friday shortly after he was struck to his head while working in a mining pit at Apanda Mines in Kamarang, Region Seven.
Dead is Neville Rodrigues, of Karasabai Village, South Pakaraima.
The police said that the incident occurred around 9 am. Rodrigues was rushed to the Jawalla Health Centre in a serious condition and he subsequently succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.
Initial enquires, the police said, revealed that Rodrigues and his colleagues were working in the pit when a chunk of hardened mud reportedly fell on his head.
His body is currently at the Kamarang mortuary waiting an autopsy.
