The struggling New Amsterdam [NA] United secured only their second win to date in the Guyana Football Federation [GFF] Elite League, upsetting Buxton United 2-1 on Friday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.
Fresh off their 1-1 draw with giant Western Tigers, Buxton United secured the early lead, as Paul Kingston etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the third minute.
However, recent recruit Kevin Cottoy equalised for the Berbicians, compliments of a 17th minute conversion. The contest remained unchanged heading into the half-time interval.
Jamal McAlmont secured the come from behind result, breaking Buxton hearts with a clinical strike in the 79th minute. With the win, NA United moves to nine points and in ninth place.
For the loser, they remain on 20 points and in sixth place. Meanwhile, Ann’s Grove and Victoria Kings battled to a 1-1 stalemate in the East Coast Demerara derby.
Quinsy Holder handed Victoria the lead in the 13th minute. Steve Francis found the back of the net in the 88th minute. Due to the result, Victoria has 23 points and remains in fifth place.
Ann’s Grove remains in eighth position with 10 points. The tournament continues today at the same venue with another doubleheader.
