A man was yesterday taken before a city court for allegedly behaving disorderly while seeking help at the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, where he is also accused of threatening to kill Junior Minister Valerie Garrido-Lowe.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan was told that on August 17th at the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, Nigel Reid, 47, behaved in a disorderly manner in a public setting, whereby a breach of the peace may have been occasioned.
Reid denied the charge.
His attorney, Tiffany Jeffrey, told the court that her client was at the ministry seeking justice for his wife when his tone changed as he was seeking assistance from personnel there.
Prosecutor Vivian Harris, however, indicated that the man was at the minister’s office when he was told by a secretary that the minister was not in. Joseph said Reid then related to the secretary that the minister told him to visit the office and he then began using indecent language, behaving disorderly and even threatened to kill the minister. He was then escorted out of the compound by security personnel. The threat against the minister is also being further investigated, Joseph noted.
Chief Magistrate McLennan subsequently granted Reid his release on $10,000 bail on the condition that he report to the Alberttown Police Station every Friday until the completion of the proceedings against him. The matter was adjourned until August 27th.
