Delon Dublin, the Federal Management Systems driver who was accused of killing a co-worker in an accident at Land of Canaan in May, was yesterday acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
Dublin, of Lot 78 Anna Catherina, was on trial for allegedly causing the death of security guard Garfield McPherson on May 6th, 2018, at Land of Canaan.
It was alleged that Dublin drove a car, PRR 6380, in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of McPherson.
At the conclusion of the trial yesterday, Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan dismissed the charge against him due to insufficient evidence being presented by the prosecution. Dublin’s defence was that on the day of the accident he was heading north along the Land of Canaan public road at about 50 to 70 km per hour when he saw a blue vehicle that was heading south and travelling at a fast rate of speed.
He said after a vehicle swerved into his lane, he pulled off the road. After pulling the vehicle into the grass, he applied the brakes but due to the roadway and the grass being wet, the vehicle skid for a distance before it came to a complete stop.
The roadway was wet as earlier that morning the rain had fallen.
When he checked the vehicle after it came to a stop, he noticed that the lower half of McPherson’s body was in the vehicle and the upper half was outside of the vehicle.
Police had alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle and ended up in a nearby trench. McPherson was among those rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead.
