Several Ituni residents received on-the-spot house lot allocations during a recent visit by Minister within the Ministry of Communities with responsibility for Housing, Valerie Adams-Patterson-Yearwood, according to the Department of Public Information (DPI).
Residents were also afforded interviews on the spot in the Region Ten community while some benefited from house lots at a cost of $59,400.
The minister said that there is adequate land available in the community for residents adding that there should be no squatting in the community.
“There are house lots available in Ituni. There is no shortage here. So, I have appealed to the community not to squat. They can take their applications to the Linden office and have them processed there…so there is no need for any person in Ituni to be squatting”, the minister stated, according to DPI.
Travon Chase, who is originally from Georgetown but now resides in Ituni, made use of the opportunity to receive his house lot allocation. Chase said “I decided that I wanted to start a life here and to find a community where the cost for house lots are reasonable and to be able to get a lot so cheap is a sort of giveaway offer so I said I must apply for it now.”
Keisha Griffith, Community Development Officer of Ituni arranged the outreach in the community. Griffith said that residents were pleased that the process was being carried out smoothly and in a timely manner.
Similar sentiments were also voiced by the Community Development Council, Chairman Kurt Murphy who said the Ituni residents were very appreciative of the price that house lots were being sold for.
