The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) yesterday defeated the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) by an innings and 126 runs in the latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), GISE, Star Party Rental and Trophy Stall first division two-day match, played at the DCC Ground.
DCC resumed the day on 281 – 2 and were dismissed for 352 from 45 overs during the first session of the final day proceedings for an overall lead of 238 runs.
Tevin Imlach (63), one of the returning overnight batsman along with skipper, Christopher Barnwell (8), resumed the day on 32 and recorded a half-century but no other batsman reached double figures.
The middle and lower order, hunting for quick runs, folded to off-spinner Nkosi Barker who grabbed his maiden first-division five wicket haul (5 for 67) from 13 overs as DCC were dismissed an hour before lunch.
Barker received support from Wayne Bollers (3-70) from 11 overs and Delon Dalrymple (2-81).
MSC, during the play before lunch, reached 26-2 after negating a nagging spell from Barnwell, while nullifying the spin of Totoram Bishun.
Bishun, however, struck to removed Barker (0) while his wrist spinning counterpart, Steven Sankar had Tuen Hicks (8) caught in the slip region just prior to the break.
MSC, still with a deficit of 212 runs, didn’t display much adeptness after the break and were skittled out for 112 with Bishun (4-53) doing the bulk of the damage.
Alex Rodrigues (39) hammered two maximums and four fours in a brief little exciting knock while Carl Human (20), and Stephon Brown (19) and the other batsmen had little answers for Bishun, who received support from Barnwell (2-18), Sankar (2-19) and Antonio Flett (2-7).
