Kendall, Andrews stand steers Rome past Herstelling

A half century from wicket-keeper/batsman Chemroy Kendall who produced a century stand with Leon Andrews helped Rome Athletics register a three-wicket win over Herstelling in the East Bank Demerara Cricket Association, second-division 40-overs tournament on Saturday at Young Men’s Christian Association Ground, Camp Street.

Herstelling won the toss and decided to bat first but were bowled out for 187 in 28.1 overs.

Rome replied with 188-7 in 28.4 overs.

Anand Bharrat was the linchpin of the Herstelling innings with an even half century. He came to the crease with Herstelling 8-1.

Bharrat smashed five fours and three sixes in his 28-ball innings and shared in a 68-run second-wicket partnership with Wazir Hussain who contributed 35 with three sixes and two fours.

Budram Baksh and Rickey Sargeant played useful cameos of 20 and 26 runs respectfully with Baksh finding the boundary on three occasions and Sargeant clearing the ropes four times.

Rome managed to take wickets at crucial times and ended partnerships consistently with Kevin Ross, Andrews and Rafael Singh striking in pairs.

At the end of the innings, Andrews, did not concede a run from his seven deliveries while claiming two wickets.

Ross with 2-47 and Singh 3-41 from eight overs.

In reply, Kendall and Andrews added 101 for the first wicket but the show belonged to Kendall who smacked the Herstelling bowling to all parts of the ground.

He struck nine sixes and five fours in his 49-ball 89 before attempting another big shot and holding out on the boundary to Navindra Pooran. The pair was especially brutal to Aaron Seepersaud, whose two overs went for 36 runs.

Jamal Michael kept the momentum going with a 16-run cameo while Akeem Redman steered Rome to victory, sealing the match with successive boundaries.

Sargeant returned with the ball to bag 3-21.
