Guyana’s male rugby outfit opened their America’s 15s Challenge campaign yesterday on the worst possible note.
They suffered a historic 71-7 drubbing at the hands of the host, Colombia. According to reports, Joseph Rahaman was the only local player to breach Colombia’s try line, a try which he also converted.
According to a GRFU official it is the second largest margin of defeat in an international 15-a-side game following the 1996 Caribbean Championships in Barbados when the Cayman Islands beat Guyana 81-7.
Dubbed the ‘Green Machine’ the local male ruggers will look to transform into robot mode with a bounce back win against Paraguay on Wednesday.
They then wrap up their campaign after facing Mexico on Sunday.
