Rose Hall Town Jammers battled past Canje Knights 62-58 on Sunday at the Rose Hall Basketball Court in the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association [BABA] ‘Karibee Rice’ Championship.
It was a dogged performance from the home side who withstood a fourth quarter assault from the visitors to prevail in front of a small crowd.
Leading 46-35 following the conclusion of the third quarter, Jammers held on in the dying moments of the contest even though Knights recorded an impressive 25 points to their 16 point haul.
The high-scoring affair started positively for the home side who outscored Knights 21-17.
Jammers built on their lead in the second period, netting 14 points while reducing the visitors to 11 points to enter the halftime period ahead at 35-28.
The host strengthened their grip on the matchup in the pivotal third stanza, tallying 11 points to Knights’ paltry seven points to enter the fourth period 46-35, setting up the eventual dramatic ending.
Ryburn Murray led the way for the eventual victors with 21 points. He was assisted by the impressive Mickel Lewis who tallied 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Chipping in with an invaluable 12 points was Haifa Walters. For the losers, the combination of Travis Sutton and Steve Roopnarine accounted for 34 points of the total with 17 each.
The next best scorer was Kevon Emmanuel with 10 points. The five team tournament continues on Sunday at the Ithaca court with the home side Ithaca Hardliners battling New Amsterdam [NA] Thunder from 16:00hrs.
Cash incentives and trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers.
